Today we're releasing a major update with a brand new way to block apps and challenges to keep you from doom scrolling.

Intentional blocking

Intentional Mode when blocking apps allows you to limit usage based on number of opens instead of time limits. It can be used with app limits, downtimes, and on-demand blocking.

Here's how it works:

1. Set # of unblocks for certain apps

2. Apps will be blocked by default

3. Unblock and scroll intentionally

4. Stay under unblocks to build a streak

  • How much your average screen time has come down
  • How much time you've unlocked with Roots
  • Daily, weekly, and monthly usage trends

Challenges

We just released weekly 24-hour challenges to help you reset and built better habits, alongside your friends and the Roots community.

Here's how it works:

Join a challenge and select apps you want to block

  • Join a challenge and select apps you want to block
  • When it starts you'll get a notification and apps will be blocked
  • You'll have a limited number of unblocks during the challenge

Join our first challenge this Sunday:

  • 24 hours
  • All social media apps
  • Limit of 3, 5-minute unblocks

A 24-hour detox can go a long way:

We've seen a lot of talk lately about how 24 hours of intentional (or no) phone usage can reset your attention span and help you come back to a better baseline so it's easier to make a lasting change.

Constantly checking our phones can put us into a hyperactive state which increases our anxiety and make it harder to be present in day-to-day life. Taking an intentional break can make a big difference in your mental and physical health.

Think of it like intermittent fasting, for your phone!

Update to the latest version of Roots to check it out.

Let us know what you think, we hope you enjoy!
